The Caring Nurse by Chang - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
My goals in nursing are to get my BSN after finishing my ADN program. My next step will be to find a job in hospital, and try my best to get a CCRN. When I have 2 years’ experience, I want to apply to a CARN program so I can work as a CARN. There are a lot of drug and alcohol problems in China. A fact that isn’t acknowledged yet. I would like to be a person that advances those alcohol and drug abuse programs, and to be able to offer my skills and abilities to improve those programs.
It is difficult for me to learn the concepts and techniques so I must spend a lot of time studying. It isn’t possible for me to study and work as my study takes so much effort and time. Also I want to get good grades in order to continue my study. When I first started my nursing program, I didn’t have the motivation that I have now. I have come to understand the importance of nursing to my life and goals. I want to be able to support my family, be involved in a profession of which I can be proud, and one that encourages growth. In doing this I want to use my skills and knowledge to improve people’s experience of medical care.
When I worked for my BA degree in Wuhan, China, my goal was to come to the U.S. to learn a profession that would benefit my family and society. I realized that learning English and getting my degree were the important steps that I needed to take. Then I came to Missouri State University in Springfield, I majored in Social Work, but I found that it was not a good fit for my goals and aspirations. I grew up at lot during that time and I continue to grow. Fortunately, I was able to understand and realize what I needed to do.
My family, although poor helped, but had very little money. I was able to borrow some money from friends and relatives, and I owe a lot to those who have helped me, and I want to return their kindness by working hard and learning a useful and people-orientated profession.
