BREAK OUT! by Car'Tiana - December 2016 Scholarship Essay
To start off on a good foundation by saying that my life is not all that interesting due to the fact that I am not allowed to do too much due to financial and risky situations. However, one significant thing that I want you to know about me is that I was once confused about my future in life. I was not sure what I wanted to major in, I was not sure about certain decisions I needed to make in my life, I was not even sure about what I wanted to eat later on that night. I then took the initiative to forcefully put myself in so many circumstances that either helped baffle me even more or build me.
I was always interested in what the many organizations my school had to offer. I never really was introduced to the purpose of building all these different groups, plus at the same time, people at my school during my freshmen year wasn’t into that. Furthermore, I heard about a field trip the Math Team was attending, so I asked to become an official member of the Math Team, not only because that was my favorite subject but because I simply wanted to get out of school. Going on to my sophomore year, I slowly crept into more and more groups going onto my junior and finally my senior year.
The many school organizations I am or previously a part of are Peer Tutoring, Skills USA, Math Team, Student Council, Freshman Orientation Team, Superior Sounds of Augusta Marching Band as a majorette dancer known as Black Sensation, Dance Club, Beta Club, Fashion Club, and Booster Club. I am/was a part of these organizations, able to maintain an “A” average and so excited about a future that I was not even sure about. Surprisingly, through these many encounters, I’ve gained gifts in many areas such as doing hair, creating or designing clothing, doing makeup, and teaching others and it gave me the drive to want to become an OB-Gyn, pediatrician, fashion designer, entrepreneur and own many things under my name. Instead of putting myself under a set limit, I can actually become a little of all those things, thanks to the versatility these organizations gave me.
Even though I wasn’t taught some of the things I learned through experience, I push myself to learn new things, even for my siblings and soon to be children because I want to continue to be a leader and example for them. As a result of that, I don’t get in trouble, I have an “A” honor roll, I’m not lazy, I try to show them that everything is possible if you put your mind to it and push themselves to become members of different organizations as well. I am not only a member of some of these organizations but I am also a leader, I am or previously was Junior Class Secretary, Senior Class Vice President, Math Team President, Dance Club President, Black Sensation’s Co-Captain, and Black Sensation’s Captain. Being a leader and basic member has caused me to learn so much about myself and others, to begin and continue stepping out of my norm, and will soon cause me to do the same during my college years and create even my own in the future. Knowing that some or most of the time I struggle with balancing putting 100% in a lot of these things I do and I love doing it. Being a member of many unique and versatile organizations help build my life! WHEN I THOUGHT MY LIFE WAS ONCE UNDECIDED, GOD CAME AND PROVIDED! BREAK OUT!
