Crossing It Off The List by Braydyn - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

Senior year is flying by and before I know it I will be graduating in May. It seems like the list of things to do gets longer and more intimidating as the days go by. College applications, ACT retake, Senior picture, Student Council Blood Drive, College Essays, Scholarship deadlines, college classes, Anatomy and Pysiology Orals, Basketball practice, Tennis practice, Food Pantry, the schedule of things I must accomplish is Daunting with a capital "D". It is enough to make any 18 year old go completely nuts. All this abundance of information leads me to believe I better make a resolution to not procrastinate and keep a calendar.
We have all been there, that moment when you have 24 hours worth of work to cram into a 5 hour window. With deadlines looming overhead I feel the pressure and I am about to explode. "Why oh why did I do this to myself?, Why did I wait till the last minute to write this essay and why did't I put it on my calendar to remind me to get it done sooner?" Far too often I have failed to plan ahead and feel the pressure to rush through something just to get it done. This leads to disappointment in myself because I know I didn't give my best effort because I was in a hurry. The procrastinator in me is my arch nemesis, setting me up for frustration. I vow to make my last few months as a High School student amazing by finishing my projects early, therefore I can consider myself ahead of the game. I mean who doesn't want to be first? Accomplishing this goal can only be done by seeing each deadline and estimating the time necessary to accomplish each desired goal.
Dead lines that hang over my head must be met with out the procrastination factor. In order to eliminate this I will keep a calendar of all important deadlines and prepare myself with adequate time to accomplish the desired goal. I must remember that colleges, scholarship committee's and others are not going to have any sympathy for why I missed a deadline. Keeping a calendar and prioritizing events will help to ensure I do not miss any deadlines. This endeavor will only help in the process of having a successful end to my Senior year. Crossing things off the list one by one will lead to less stress and frustration.
The days behind me hold great memories and the days ahead hold untold possibilities. The best that I can do is to be prepared for the future ahead. Not all resolutions in life are able to be easily met and attained, however with organization and preparedness my future is looking pretty bright.
