Where do you see yourself 10 years from now? How will your education help you get there? by Bailee - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

In ten years I see myself managing and working in my own mentally handicapped home near the town I live in with my family. It will be a good size home that is very active, allowing the residents to be able to go out and get a breath of fresh air and visiting farm animals such as horses, cows, goats, dogs, cats, etc. They also will be allowed to go into different towns to go shopping, watch movies in movie theaters, and simply go out to a restaurant to eat.

My education will help me get there because I will be a Registered Nurse (RN) which allows me to open a group home for the mentally handicapped. In the State of Minnesota every residential home needs to have an RN on call or working in the homes. As an RN I will be able to be the owner and an active caregiver in this environment.

I work in a group home now as a caregiver to the disabled. I plan to continue this work through college. I will work for my company as an RN for experience in the nursing aspect until I am able to own and run my own group home effectively. I intend to take my experience and training and apply it to the care I will provide to the residents of my group home.

With this scholarship I will apply it to my college nursing degree and be able to apply it to my long term goals.
