Anything Is Possible by Aubrey - February 2017 Scholarship Essay

Hard work and dedication played major roles in most, if not all, of my successes. In spite of having many successful moments, I have also failed on a numerous amount of occasions. To say the least, the beginning of my high school career wasn't as preeminent as I planned it to be. In likeness to each of my peers, I wanted to fit in. I wanted to belong so desperately that I didn't realize what I was ultimately giving up. Therefore, I had to sit back and realize how much potential I had when it came to my academics and to being true to myself. Once I grasped a little bit of faith in myself, everything changed.
I entered high school as a pre-ap student. Everything seemed up to par ranging from my grades to my attendance. As time passed, I began to struggle in keeping up with my class, and I became easily influenced by those around me. I was challenged with trying to fit into a society of individuals who wanted nothing more than to be recognized for committing disagreeable acts. School became less and less of a priority to me. I cut class daily and rarely turned in any of my assignments. My negligence in school didn't come to my attention until I went back the next year hoping to begin my sophomore year. When I picked up my class schedule and school ID they both clearly stated that I was still a freshman. In that very moment I felt a huge weight of embarrassment pounding on my chest, and it immediately encouraged me to make some new changes.
Never did I imagine that I would be in the position that I was in. I was failing high school before I even made it halfway through. After I bungled my freshman year I noticed that I failed in more ways than one. I declined myself the opportunity to have my own personality and characteristics. Most importantly, I fell short of showing what my mind was really made of. Nevertheless, I set goals, and used the capacity of my intellectuality to make a come back. I couldn't allow myself to let it show in my mentality that I would let the value of my brain go to waste in order to conform to the standards of this community of unprincipled individuals.
Rather than fitting in, I was determined to make it. Although, I was a year behind, I had a set goal to graduate high school a year early. I put myself in a new atmosphere, and I transfigured my mind to see that there are possibilities everywhere in the world. I just had to learn how to believe in myself, and my capabilities, enough to see that they are available to anyone who can achieve them. Before I knew It, I was tremendously improving. Along with improving, I was also learning how to be who I was meant to be. With the greatest gratification, on May 27, 2016, I graduated from Lawton High School a year in advance of my original 2017 class.
This short-term failure taught me some of the most important lessons of ones life. I learned how to be confident in who I am and to always stay true to myself. Not only did I improve in school, but I also improved in character. I attained enough knowledge to know that I should always keep pushing towards my aspirations. Taking everything in mind, this brief failure led to me reaching one of the most unforgettable milestones in my life. In all honesty, I believe that it is safe to say that anything truly is possible.
