Go for It by Karli - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

Goals. We hear the word often especially on January 1st every year but why are they so important to have. Studies show that people that set goals and write them down are more likely to achieve them than those that don't and are more successful in life. Goals give us direction and guidance. Not having goals is like playing a game with no rules. Everyone is just making their own rules up and determining their own winner as they go. My goals for this year are to graduate from high school with my associates degree.

I remember hearing names called out at graduation when I was a sophomore and leaned over asking my mom what those 4 students were being recognized for. After her explaining to me that they had gotten their associates degree, I looked straight at her said, "That's what I'm going to do."

Playing sports, having a part time job, participating and having leadership roles in clubs, keeping a busy social life, and maintaining high grades in college classes is not for the faint of heart, but I am doing it with flying colors. I've learned to be organized, super disciplined with my time, and balance work and fun.

My determination to excel and my hunger for learning new things drives me to achieve. I crave the adventure of life and proving to myself that I can do hard things. I'm not afraid of failure because I know that's where I can learn and grow the most with the right attitude.

After graduating from high school with my associates degree, I plan on attending college to earn my bachelors degree in Psychology, then pursuing my master's degree in occupational therapy. Being an occupational therapist will allow me to help others not just physically but mentally as well. Showing them new ways to achieve the tasks they need to be independent and helping patients achieve their personal goals will be rewarding for not only them but myself as well.
