Education Does Matter! by Annie - November 2015 Scholarship Essay

Education matters for our society! Everyone benefits when our citizens go to college to receive an education. Our communities depend on people who will gain the knowledge to help our society continue to progress. Our older generation and our future generations depend on us to put in the time and resources needed to make our world a better place for all.

Since both of my parents are educators, I have always known the importance of getting an education. I knew it was important for me to do it. However, I have recently realized the importance for all of our society. The school I am in has a mission statement that helps me understand this. It says, “Educating all students to ensure the future of our democracy.” Democracy to me means our American way of life. It takes a citizenry of educated people to make this happen.

Research consistently points out that those people who get a college education are more likely to live a better life. This means financially as well as the whole aspect of living. When a person has a better job, they will enjoy better health benefits and be able to live a healthier life. Crime rates are lower in areas where the population has a higher education.

I am happy to know that I will be able to serve others with my education. I understand that I have the duty to help others through my attention to furthering my education.
