New Year's Resolution by Amy - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
Every New Year’s Eve, people all over the world make New Year's Resolutions. Some people plan to live a healthier lifestyle or to try to be more positive. My New Year’s Resolution is to become a better student starting in the year of 2016. Being a student is a lot of hard work when it comes to all the assignments and activities. To be a better student I am going to focus on organization, working hard, and getting more involved. There millions of helpful tips and tricks to help you have fun while still being the best student you can be.
One very important ability to have as a student is organization. You need to be capable of keeping up with all assignments, syllabuses, and after school activities. Keeping a planner or calendar up to date can easily help you keep up with upcoming assignments. Doing these assignments as soon as you get them rather than closer when they are due can help you keep up with your grades. When first receiving a syllabus write down all the material in your planner. This prevents you from showing up to class unprepared. For active students, it is hard to keep up with all your assignments and all the hours of after school activities. Something to make your life easier is to organize a schedule for the day to insure you will not miss out on any of your assignments or activities.
I have learned that being a full time student is hard work, but I plan to work even harder this year. I passed my first semester of college with a 3.0 which is not a bad score but I want to work on getting a bigger and better score. To help guarantee that higher score I am going to focus on doing all my assignments early and getting a second opinion on them before I turn them into my professors. There is a lot of material to learn over the course of a semester so I am planning to study even if there is no upcoming assignment or test. I will also email my professors to inform me if there is any extra credit work that I can do even if I do not have a lower grade. When it comes to school, finals are the hardest part so to prepare I am going to work on building my grade point average in case I do not do as well on a final.
College is not all fun in games so you need to make room for them. Getting involved in after school activities could not only be fun but it also reflects positively on your character. When you get stressed out from all our college courses, join a club or team to help you have fun and relieve stress. There are many scholarships that look at all the extra work you put in outside of school and help you to not worry about having to pay for college as much. Also joining after school activities can help you decide on a major if you have not already. Being around people with the same interest as you can help you make friends who are going to be there for you for life. You may even meet your significant other by going out and getting involved.
Even though college is a tough environment, you can survive and become a better student by staying organized, working hard and getting involved. Starting now my focus is on applying this to my everyday life in order to be the best college student I can be. Not only will I get the grade point average I desire, I will get the college experience I desire.
