A Goal of Happiness by Alexis - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

In ten years from now, I see myself being happy on a daily basis. I’ll either live with a significant other or a best friend to share the burden of apartment rent in a city. I’ll own at least three cats and be able to afford a computer that actually works how its supposed to. I’ll have more self-confidence and be able to express my gender how I want. My education in the field of psychology will lead me to my personal path to happiness.
I only recently discovered what I want to do with my life, which kind of scared me. I felt so behind compared to my peers, who have been talking about the careers that they’ve wanted to pursue since freshman and sophomore year. Through careful introspection, I’ve come back to psychology time and time again. Since the study of our minds and how they work captivates my interests, it seems like an excellent field for me to be in. The idea of being able to help other help themselves is rewarding to me, and even if I don’t make the most money, it’ll bring the payment of personal satisfaction. Without pursuing an education, I can’t help people to the greatest potential I can.
I know that this happiness that I’m looking for in life won’t just come to me; I’ll have to work daily for it. I’m willing to study intensely, work hard, and achieve my goals. I have ten years to achieve these goals, and my university studies will lead me to success.
