I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

Hi Everyone!

My name is Linda Deaver, and I hold a B.A. in Literature and Historical Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas. My M.A. and Ph.D., which are also from the University of Texas at Dallas, are both in the Humanities with a concentration in the moral philosophy, literature, and feminist theory. I consider myself a non-traditional student and a life-long learner. What can I say--I love to learn! As a legal assistant, I originally started school with plans to take business classes to prepare for law school. However, it did not take long to realize that when it came time to make that fateful decision: law or literature, my heart belonged to literature. and art, and history, and philosophy. The study of literature and philosophy, especially, opened up another world for me, a world of new ideas and unlimited possibilities. I hope to share the excitement of that world with my students.

Hobbies

I enjoy watching movies and reading. I also enjoy writing. Although I haven't really published recently, it stays on my "to do" list. I have several characters developed for a new project, but they do not know where they are going yet. I love animals and work in animal rescue--I always seem to have a houseful. I also like nature and the outdoors. During the summer my backyard is filled with flowers. My dog and I walk daily, and this often includes playdates in the park and hiking with our friends.
