Certified Tutor
After graduating from Cornell University with my Bachelors in Physics and German Studies, I am currently enrolled in the Materials Science and Engineering PhD program at the University of Michigan. I enjoy tutoring students because I was once on the other side of the table! While at Cornell, a physics graduate student provided me with supportive, concept-based, and empathetic tutoring that greatly increased my self-confidence and mastery of the course material. In my tutoring sessions, I use many techniques which I learned from him, and my #1 goal is to empathize with the student and make them feel valued despite their academic struggles. My tutoring sessions focus on helping the student understand the "why" -- "why is equation X appropriate and not equation Y?". From my own experience, this approach allows students to fully understand the course material and apply it in a variety of settings, from academia to careers and internships.
I have completed over 500 hours of tutoring at 3 different companies, and have proofread cover letters and resumes for adults seeking new job opportunities. I continue to keep my German skills sharp by regularly watching German television and news, and have achieved CEFR Level C2 Proficiency (highest possible) in all areas of the German language (reading, writing, speaking, and listening).
