I am a personable and enthusiastic educator with more than a decade of tutoring and classroom teaching experience. I started as a peer tutor in high school and continued working as a tutor and Teaching Assistant in college. After receiving a degree in Biochemistry from NYU, I joined the Peace Corps, where I was assigned to teach high school Math, Science, and English. I loved teaching so much that I stayed to continue teaching and tutoring even after my tour of service had ended. After returning to the US, I received my MPH from Emory University in 2018.
Because of my extensive and varied experience, I am willing and able to teach students of all ages and learning styles.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Demonstrate and explicitly teach both study skills and problem-solving strategies geared toward the subject. Repeat as necessary to reinforce good learning habits.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
If a student is "not getting it," then a different approach is in order. I would bring in pictures, real-world items, videos, and interactive media to demonstrate different approaches to the topic.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Some methods involve the demonstration and use of comprehension strategies, such as story mapping, drawing pictures, and explicit vocabulary instruction.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Bring the student's outside interests into the lesson. Vary the techniques and strategies used. Relate the lesson to real-world situations to show its usefulness.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Always tailor the lesson to the student's current level of understanding. The beginning of the lesson should cover more basic material that the student has already mastered. By the end of the lesson, they will have gradually taken on more challenging problems which pushed their level of understanding forward.
