Certified Tutor
I am passionate about tutoring. I love tutoring because I truly enjoy helping others learn and I truly enjoy seeing the light bulb in your brain turn on!
I graduated from Auburn University in 2007 and have been working as an electrical engineer since then. As an engineer, I use math pretty much every day. For over 10 years now, I have tutored high school seniors/juniors and college students in math (primarily Calculus I and II, but many other mathematics subjects as well).
My tutoring style is very dynamic and very dependent on you. I spend time to understand what your needs are and what you are struggling with.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
During the first tutoring session, I like to get to know the student. I learn about interests and hobbies; I also quickly identify problem areas when it comes to learning. Of course, we focus on topics that the student is struggling with in his/her class, but we would review past topics as well.
What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that you (the student) will learn best by working out problems yourself!
At times, I also believe that it is beneficial if you make mistakes and learn from them! I will be your guide and help you to understand from these mistakes.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
With math, listening to a teacher lecture and participating in a tutoring session are helpful, but the best way to learn math is to work on many problems! Often, this requires independent efforts outside of class or tutoring sessions.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Some students are self-motivated. If you aren't one of those students, I will work with you to understand what drives you. Short answer: It's probably not math!
