I take pride in my own academic education and strive to inspire others feel the same. I am a strong believer in the power of education, and understand that we can all use a little extra help to achieve our goals. I feel my experience working in varied environments has enabled me to develop a range of practical skills and allows me to be able to relate to students of all ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds. As someone who also receives tutoring, I completely understand how difficult and frustrating learning can be at times. I believe this perspective allows me to really be able to engage with my students. Lastly, my ability to motivate and inspire others is a very significant contribution that I am confident I can bring to the course and into the classroom.

I'm a 4th year college student at Stony Brook University working towards a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and a minor in writing and rhetoric. I love helping other students enjoy what they are learning by providing support as a tutor! Students who struggle in their academics often just need a role model who can focus on their individual learning style and encourage them to utilize it -- which is who I try to be each day. My goal for my students is for them to see past the challenges and enjoy the process of learning. I have over 2 years' experience tutoring kids in grades K-12 in math, science, English, and test prep, as well as helping fellow college students in biology, math, and chemistry. Examples of my expertise include teaching a class at an SAT prep center, private tutoring for K-12 both in-person and online, serving as head teaching assistant for college-level biology, and working as a chemistry peer tutor for other students at my university. I use a wide range of virtual games, arts and crafts, physical activity, virtual simulations, and real-world problems to make tutoring sessions engaging and appropriate to age level. As someone who wants to pursue research and teaching as a career, I believe quality, accessible education can have a huge positive impact on people's wellbeing and development.

Hello, my name is Vaibhav Sharma and I am a recent graduate of the University of Pittsburgh. I majored in neuroscience and chemistry and while I was in college I spent my time volunteering at local hospitals and researching novel neuroscience techniques. I will attend medical school at Geisinger Commonwealth Medical College this fall. Having taken all of the science classes since high school, I know how daunting and hard science material might seem but if taken at a very fundamental level, it is much more logical and simpler than how many high school teachers or college professors make it seem. Thats how I approach tutoring my clients. I try to use practical examples on how the science principles come into play in the real world.

I am a certified Elementary Teacher. I graduated from Brigham Young University and have been teaching for 3 years. I have taught 4th grade and 6th grade, and I have volunteered in 1st, 2nd, and 5th grade classes as well. I love helping students learn. My favorite part about teaching is helping students understand a concept that they've been struggling with by explaining it in a new way. I love teaching math, especially algebra. I also love to read in my spare time, and I strive to pass on that love of reading to my students. I enjoy helping them learn to decode and comprehend, because those are the things that make reading enjoyable! In my free time, I enjoy reading, running, baking, and watching sports.

I graduated from Washington State University. My major was Sociology with a minor in Human Development. Later, I became a teacher to assist students with learning disabilities. My biggest revelation was that everyone learns differently.I help struggling students find their learning style and apply it. The process may not be pretty but progress is made . One strategy is "no opting out". Students work on a assignment despite believing they cannot complete it.My approach to tutoring is two-fold for students in elementary school to high school. They must practice skills and learning strategies. This approach does not accommodate college students because of the academic workload. For them, our sessions are project-based. I cover all aspects of an assignment, including examples or critique completed projects.I now focus on entrepreneurial education and S.T.E.M. The subjects that I tutor are: English, Language Arts and Basic Math to Pre-Algebra. I look forward to unleashing the learning potential of future clients.

With a background in cognition based studies, I'd personally be obliged to teach you or your child what I know! Considering that many people go through intense stress in order to succeed in the school system these days, I'd be a refreshing back-seat approach to hopefully engage you or your young learner in the material involved. What is this 'back-seat' approach? The back seat approach is a method of going through material but rather than set strict quotas for a student. I work with the student to help them with whatever problem they may have. It works because the student doesn't realize that they are being guided in the long run, but gradually the student may become more adept to the material. And surely, after a few weeks of tutoring, the processes to solve a particular dilemma, the steps would become second nature to the student. As I am comfortable with anything from Biology to History, and from Arithmetic to Algebra, and even English Reading and Composition (writing), I believe I am a great pick if you are looking for a tutor with a well rounded understanding and approach.

Frequently Asked Questions
Tutors specializing in scholarship essays provide personalized feedback on every aspect of your writing—from developing a compelling thesis and organizing your ideas logically, to refining your voice and ensuring your essay stands out. Rather than simply editing grammar, they help you identify what makes your story unique and guide you through multiple revision cycles to strengthen your argument and impact.
Many students struggle with a few key issues: writing too generically without showing personal insight, trying to be someone they're not rather than letting their authentic voice shine through, and failing to directly address what the scholarship committee is actually looking for. Other common pitfalls include poor organization that makes essays hard to follow, weak opening hooks that don't grab attention, and missing the word count requirements. A tutor can help you identify and fix these issues before submission.
While scholarship essays vary by prompt, most benefit from a clear structure: a strong opening that hooks the reader with a specific moment or insight, body paragraphs that build your argument or tell your story with concrete examples, and a conclusion that ties everything back to why you deserve the scholarship. The key is making sure every paragraph supports your main message and that transitions between ideas flow naturally. A tutor can help you tailor your structure to the specific prompt and ensure your essay maintains momentum throughout.
Writer's block often happens because you're trying to write perfectly from the start. A tutor can help you break through this by working through brainstorming exercises, asking strategic questions about your experiences and values, and getting you to write messy first drafts that you can refine later. Many students find it helpful to start by free-writing about your topic without worrying about organization or grammar, then shaping that raw material into a structured essay during revision.
Your authentic voice emerges when you write about what genuinely matters to you and use specific, concrete details rather than generic statements. Instead of saying "I'm a hard worker," show it through a real example. A tutor can help you identify your natural writing style, encourage you to use conversational language where appropriate, and push you to take risks that reflect who you actually are—not who you think the scholarship committee wants you to be.
Effective revision happens in layers. First, focus on big-picture issues: Does your essay answer the prompt fully? Is your main idea clear? Then move to paragraph-level organization: Does each paragraph support your thesis? Finally, tackle sentence-level issues like grammar and word choice. A tutor can guide you through this process, pointing out areas where your argument weakens or where your voice fades, and helping you strengthen each element through multiple rounds of feedback and revision.
Ideally, start 4-6 weeks before your deadline to give yourself time for multiple drafts and revisions. Plan to spend several sessions brainstorming and outlining, then draft your essay, set it aside for a few days, and revise with fresh eyes. Working with a tutor throughout this timeline helps you stay on track, get feedback at key stages, and avoid the stress of last-minute scrambling. Even working together for 3-4 sessions can significantly improve your essay's clarity, persuasiveness, and impact.
