What is Success? by Zoe - February 2021 Scholarship Essay

I am a very driven person and I want to excel in everything that I put my mind to. I know that college will push me to new levels. I also know that sometimes growth can be hard. I know that learning is a journey.

I am a perfectionist, but I know that I will not always attain perfection. At times when I fall short, I tend to become discouraged. I need to have a goal that I can look to and say, “I am still on a path to a successful college experience.”

At those times I will ask myself, “Am I learning? Am I growing? Am I becoming the person I want to be? Am I working hard?” If I can answer yes to those questions, I will know that I am headed in the right direction.

Furthermore, I will ask myself how I can adjust to do better in the future. I will take a careful, objective look at the challenges I face and make the changes that I need.

Most importantly, I will ask myself if I am helping others. It is my goal to be someone that empowers others to become better. My plan is to become an engineer so I especially want to help other girls in STEM. I love to teach others and help them grow.

So, if I have worked hard, adapted to challenges, and been a source of encouragement and help to those around me, I will know that I am well on my way towards a successful college experience.
