Achieving Requires Believing by Zachary - February 2014 Scholarship Essay

“Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right.” –Henry Ford

Motivation, drive and tenacity determine one’s true impact in life. The ability to believe in oneself and stride forth into uncharted waters with confidence transforms is what differentiates ordinary people from the extraordinary. Henry Ford proved this himself when he rose from modest beginnings to revolutionize transportation and become one of the most influential figures of the twentieth century. He thought that he could change the world, and he was right.

This quote has made a monumental impact on my life. It hangs above my desk in my bedroom and reminds me that regardless of what obstacles I might perceive to be in my way, there are always ways to succeed. I simply need to believe in myself and rise to the occasion.

Whether I am organizing a large volunteer function, running a marathon, studying for an examination, or trying to learn a new skill, I constantly find myself thinking of this quote. This quote constantly reminds me that determination and hard work can enable me to achieve great things in life. Henry Ford’s immortal words give me the extra bit of fire and inspiration I need to not only achieve my goals, but to strive for excellence.

I think that I can make a difference in the world and I will work tirelessly until I prove that I am right.
