I cannot limit myself in a certain perspective - what Wuthering Heights influenced me the most by Yuping - May 2017 Scholarship Essay

Wuthering Heights showed me different views of love, revenge, and forgiveness. It is my favorite book, and it is also the book that influences me the most.
When you love someone but unfortunately cannot be with them, living a good life is the biggest compensation for both of you. Cathy was delighted to see that Heathcliff had a great life coming back to the Thrush Cross Grange after few years, which was enough. The genuine blessing and love lie in a positive way of life.
“I get levers and mattocks to demolish the two houses, and train myself to be capable of working like Hercules, and when everything is ready, and in my power, I find the will to lift a slate off either roof has vanished!” said Heathcliff, my favorite part of Wuthering Heights.
Heathcliff was severely hurt by everybody around him, including his love, Cathy. So, he built up walls against everybody. But, in the end, Heathcliff chose forgiveness as his salvation. Ultimately, he let go his grudge. I believe he was truly seeking his own forgiveness. In the deep side of his heart, he did not want to hurt anyone. Since he knew that a lot of people had helped him before. It is hard to forgive someone or something, especially when you were extremely mentally injured. After reading Wuthering Heights, I realized that no matter how eager Heathcliff was to take his revenge, he still chose to forgive at the end of his life.
I first read Wuthering Heights in the summer of fifth grade. Although time changes our life, Cathy’s boldness and adventurous, Catherine’s intellect and generosity, Edgar’s cautiousness, and Heathcliff’s integrity still keep influencing me in many different aspects of life. Especially as a college student now, I know I cannot limit myself in a certain perspective towards an issue.
