My peers are my teachers by Yash - May 2015 Scholarship Essay
Nowadays, it is quite ordinary to see people of all ages attending a college or university. In fact, many seniors or high school dropouts even go back to school to obtain their GED’s. Learning is an unrestricted process that happens at all ages and stages of life. I feel as if we are never too old to learn from our peers; whether it is consciously, subconsciously, physically, mentally, or emotionally.
Fortunately, I’m elated to have such beneficial peers throughout my educational journey so far. And besides my peers teaching me cool magic tricks, how to get a trick shot in a video game, or how to have fun, there’s one attribute that I have learned from them that is truly essential and valuable to excel in life. Time management. I consider this life-long tool to be chief in realizing how to manage and prioritize things in life. And so far, time has been a great second teacher. My peers, known as my friends, have subconsciously made me apprehend to the two major aspects of time management. Again, not by verbally giving me advice, but by our hangouts and conversations in school and outside of school.
Between all of my activities, whether it is related to my personal life, school life or family life, many are straightforwardly apparent between whether they are a priority or not. Simply watching T.V while eating a bag of chips versus helping a friend in need to complete his or her project is essential and effortless to differentiate. Many folks might be lethargic and consequently make up an excuse. Nonetheless, it is ideal to realize what kind of person to be. With time management it is important to establish those priorities as soon as possible to prevent any subsequent confusion and arguments.
Deadlines are also imperative. Many of these so called deadlines for me include applying to scholarships, doing homework, and submitting projects online. Let’s say it is a Friday night and I have to submit an online project by next Wednesday. Some of my peers would ask me to join them to go to the movies that night. There would be a catch. “Make sure you finish that project for Mr. Sotardi Yash.” my friend Jacob would hint at me. I would without a doubt put extra effort to finish my project as much as I can and avoid procrastination. And it isn’t that my friends want to waste my time or distract me. In fact, it is a subconscious “signal” to get my work done on time. It is Inevitable, huh?
Putting into words on how my peers have managed me to achieve a great asset such as time management is definitely not doable. Nonetheless, it is even through the most nominal and latent time that I have gotten a better lesson as to how I am going to manage my time. I completely cherish and appreciate my fellow peers and hope to become my own master in a virtue like time management as it can lead to great first impressions, and opportunities in life that one has never even anticipated of.
