Yearbook: Editor In Chief by Yamileth - March 2014 Scholarship Essay

My greatest academic achievement would be when in was chosen to be the Editor in Chief for my yearbook class. This position is like being the boss or the head command in the classroom. It comes with great responsibility, you need to make sure that everyone is getting their work done, designing attractive pages and that everything comes out on time. A way this accomplishment has impacted my life would have to be the stress that comes with balancing other classes, a sport and this business responsibility. I don’t view these factors as negatives because it has also helped me to make different friends and to be more outgoing and assertive.

The stress I mentioned before has been a motivator in a way; it helps me learn how to manage my time between homework, practice and editing the pages that need to be submitted. It becomes a way of life really, because you not only are turning in class assignments but also learning how a business works. For very page that is not turned in on time, then the printing company charges the school. That is why it takes a whole classroom to be on top of their deadlines and work. Sometimes we all need to stay after hours to make sure we make it on time, but these nights are the ones I look forward to the most.

When I became Editor in Chief, it started to impact my life automatically. I was bombarded with a lot of responsibility to be commanding and assertive to my own classmates. I had to learn to be that type of leader but I also was able to connect with each one, in the process making many new friends. Being in this position has also opened many doors for me at school. I have gotten more involved in school activities and being able to integrate myself quickly in different crowds. It truly has been more of a blessing than a burden.

This accomplishment has impacted me the most in the sense of making me grow as a better student, friend and human being. Without these responsibilities I believe that my senior year in high school, would have been as dull as a stale piece of bread. It has made me enjoy more of what high school has to offer and I will experience the greatest joy of all, creating something the whole school will come to cherish for many years after receiving their own edition of the Laguna Hills High School yearbook.
