Education's Purpose by william - April 2015 Scholarship Essay
The purpose of an education is different for each individual. My opinion, is that education is to expand your mind.
To learn more than you already know, to think more progressive, to think of the bigger questions.
For example, a lot of people go into higher education because they want a job that pays well and that will support their future and financial life. Although, I do agree that this is a good idea, I just wish it wasn’t what we had to do to become successful. I wish education could be freely accessed and we weren’t burdened with all these financial struggles at such a young point in most people’s lives. Education is extremely expensive. We put a price on something and because we believe it’s worth the price, we pay for it.
The purpose of an education, as I said it to learn. To learn what exactly, that is your choice. There are many pathways you can choose from business, visual arts, engineering and much, much more. Many people want to learn many things and some of them do learn those many things. How long does it take to be able to do well in these “things,” you may ask? Well, people are different and some people learn things quickly and some people, it may take time. But, that’s the purpose of school and the education they give you. They teach you and eventually you learn the subject and become good at it.
Personally, I don’t think education is worth as much as some places may make it seem. People don’t understand that college prices have increase well over 1,000% in the past 30 years.
All-in-all, education itself is great and many high school students should take advantage of it and use the free education they’re given to the utmost advantage.
