Proof of my understanding of my psychology presentation by Weston - September 2021 Scholarship Essay
This was back when I was a freshman in college. I was getting ready to present a presentation on the affects of bullying and mental health for my Intro into Psychology class. As usual, I checked to make sure my slides were working, organized, understandable, and appropriate for what I’m presenting. I also make sure that my notecards are neatly organized a readable, so my presentation is efficient. When I presented and completed my presentation, overall, it went well until a student asked me a deep and thoughtful question about the long-term effects of bullying on both children and college students. At first, I thought I knew exactly what the student was asking. But then the student told me that wasn’t what she was after for an answer from me. In a way, the student was challenging my understanding of the topic. So basically, what I did is that at the end of my presentation, I asked my professor if I could show proof of the findings and results to the research and results. Not only was I showing the student, but the whole class was curious as well.
When I told the student to read the section where it says the effects of bullying and mental health and results, the student showed a clear facial sign that I was right. Not only that, the professor and students were impressed and wondering where I found the empirical article with all of the research and results in it since it was clear and had lots of high-quality information. Basically, I told them to go to this site and type in whatever psychological topics you want to do some research on. It was full of good psychological topics on the behavior of both children, adults, and including animals. Studies, experiments, and lots more. This site had everything that’s for those who like to read and write about psychological research. What did I learn from this? What I learned is that if a student or professor challenges your understanding about a topic, if you have proof to prove your understanding of the topic, show them the proof like an empirical article so that they know that they can clearly figure out that you understand the topic clearly.
