New Year New Me by Vladimir - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

New Years is a great time of the year! It is a fresh start, a new beginning, and time for change. A resolution is a simple thing. It is a firm decision to do something or to not do something. For instance, getting a better job, saving money, or managing debt. Theses are fantastic resolutions. Many people would like to start the year off by doing tasks that will contribute more significantly than the previous years. Since it is a new year, it's time for some change!

My new years resolution is to develop a healthier lifestyle to become a better student for the year of 2016. Research has proven that eating healthy has been linked to better memory, higher grades, more alertness, and faster information processing which leads to a better school attendance. I've come up with a plan to help me achieve my attainable goal. The first step to my goal is to practice healthy eating habits. This includes monitoring what types of foods I eat and paying attention to how much food I take in to my body. I cannot eat junk food when my brain tells me that it’s hungry. I must take the advantageous initiative of putting down the rich, creamy, chocolate covered ice-cream cake and pick up the celery sticks! Also eating a healthy breakfast would contribute with my learning because I won’t be thinking about food while I’m taking that math test. Research has also proved that physical activity improves perceptual skills, intelligence, achievement, verbal tests, math tests, and academic readiness which brings me to second step of my goal. The second step of my goal is to workout at the gym and go running for at least 20 minutes a day. These habits will help boost my learning in a dramatic way and at the same time keep my body healthy.

This new year of 2016 is a great time to start bettering myself as a student. If I am not doing everything I can to increase my education, then it will be just like the previous year where I was just an average student getting average grades. The year where I will go above and beyond to increase my education to prepare myself for college will be this year. I will develop my healthy lifestyle starting this year to better myself as a high school student transitioning to the college level.
