Supporting The Misinformed by Vincent - November 2019 Scholarship Essay
I am a freshman in college, I do not do much other than go to class, eat, sleep, and do homework. However, recently I started to get involved in the media aspect of the college. This is how I help to service the campus.
Posting on social media might not be very big but it is very helpful. With everyone spending more than a third of their day on their phones, specifically social media, it would be best to express matters to them through social media. What I do is post events, promote new things and show schedules of what is to come in the following week. The job of posting itself is not time consuming, but the real job of researching what will actually go on and being accurate is difficult. With so much information online, it is hard to tell what is real and what is false. It takes hours to find things that are actually true, that people will be excited to go to or will see as useful. For example, a few weeks ago it took me two hours to find ten educational events people can go to during the weekend. As I see it, I am doing a huge service to people who do not know how to find information on their own. Many people do not have access to websites or do not know how to navigate the web as efficiently as I do. In addition, it has become more prevalent that people really do not have the time to be searching for things online. Saying that it took me two hours just to find out about ten events is time no one on this campus has, their time is spent towards homework or a midterm.
In conclusion, by posting information online I impact the lives of college students that are too busy or not as tech savvy as those who can find it. I bring joy and happiness to people as well as bring many students together.
