For one to succeed in college they will have to learn the main skills of a leader. However, there is a difference between a successful leader, and a successful honest leader. Getting through college is no easy task however with certain qualities there are ways to strive through it and succeed. Becoming a successful leader in college one must learn the skills and traits of an honest leader. These skills consist of Courage, Sincerity, Passion, Confidence, and most of all Honesty.

Courage is one step. One step of faith that once taken everything will be different, and one can start doing what they have always wanted. Courage at a young age in school could be as little as raising his or her hand in class to read a page of a story. As one goes through life the different steps of courage will change as one matures and must go through different situations. In college some of these steps of courage could consist of signing up for eighteen credits instead of fifteen for the next semester or even going to a career fair that one is normally too shy to go to.

One must have sincerity to go through college successfully. The more sincere one is the more people will trust the person. To gain one’s trust it takes time, energy, and patience. However, all these will pay off when later in life this sincerity brought the student trust from their teachers, friends, coworkers, and fellow students. These teachers, friends, coworkers, and fellow students may someday be there to network and further one’s career.

Passion is what gets a student through college. The passion to strive through the assignments, through the stress, through the challenges one must go through in their college experience. These challenges will either make or break a student. However, this passion is a passion to succeed, a passion to have a successful future will drive a student to a better future surrounded by others who have just as much passion as they do.

To have confidence is completely different than being cocky. One must learn how to be confident in the right, respectable way. To gain this confidence the student must start back at the first skill mentioned, courage. To have confidence one must have courage to take the first step and from there on it is going to be something as little as standing up tall, looking one’s future employer straight in the eye when being spoken to, or even as little as a firm handshake shows confidence in the right way.

Honesty is the most important leadership skill necessary to succeed not only in college but in life. All throughout one’s life there are challenges he or she must face with in making the right decision and being honest about whichever decision that is made. Living with an honest mindset will give one the needed courage, sincerity, passion, and confidence. This mindset will help a student, and future employee make the right decisions for a company and even their own lives.

To be a successful leader one must do anything it takes for them to succeed. However, to be a successful honest leader one must learn the skills to achieve with an honest mindset. These skills consist of courage, sincerity, passion, confidence, and honesty. To learn these traits will not be an easy task. Still, no one ever said college would be easy, but it will be worth it.
