When I Fall I Get Right Back Up by Tyus - February 2017 Scholarship Essay
There are times in my life where I would feel like I am as low as I can be and it could come from me failing at something or it could be when I feel like I am alone in this world. When I fall I can right back up though I know this because there are more times where I fell and got up. It could be as literate as me falling off of my bike and getting up the next minute or it could be as figurative as me falling metaphorically and getting back to good standings.
I remember one time back in my freshman year, when I was at Southwest Early College Campus I was one of the best scholars in the freshman class that attended the school. I was academically advanced and at the top of my class. Our lass consisted of a little over one hundred students and a quarter of them aren't in the same class today. In every class that I had my percentage was a 90 percent or above and even in my world history class I had over a 100 percent. I reached academic excellence when I was in the ninth grade but when I became a sophomore I started to slip. I started the school year off with all "A's", as everyone would. I actually kept that all "A" grade average until the start of the third quarter. When the third quarter started it was the beginning of January and my family was struggling to get the rent or the house that we were staying in at the time. We were a couple of months behind on the rent, the heat, and on the electricity bills and eventually the heat and electricity was cut off and we were living in the dark and in the cold. It was very difficult to get ready for school while in the dark. You can't see what you're doing, you can't even see if you have left over toothpaste on your face so you can wipe it off before you go to school. We stayed in the house without lights or heat for about a month but it felt shorter than that because if I weren't at school then I would sleep for most of the day because it would keep me warm. I would bundle up with an extra blanket just so I can get to sleep but that was every other night because I had five other siblings that lived with me and my two parents. Most nights I would wake up and couldn't get back to sleep because it was so cold. Since it was too cold for me to get back to sleep when I woke up in the middle of the night I would just go to sleep while I was at school causing my grades to slip.
It wasn't until a day in February where I was fooling around before I got to school and I missed the bus, but I thought my luck was beginning to turn around because I had to walk to school and as I was walking to school I found 97 dollars then I purchased my first phone. I thought that my luck was starting to turn around. We stayed in the house without lights or heat until the beginning of March when it started to warm up a little bit. We didn't get the lights and heat cut back on we just got evicted because we were so behind on rent. Since we got evicted my parents put us in a hotel. It was tough for them to spend their paychecks just to keep us in a room at the hotel. The hotel hotel was located to far from my school so it was a struggle for my parents to get all three of their children who was still in school, to school especially since we went to all different schools. I was getting to school during second hour missing my first making my grades in that class fall from an"A" to a"D" but I wasn't really worried about that because I thought that Biology was pretty easy and I could get that"D" up with ease. When I would get to school I would get there for the last five minutes of second hour and I would miss all of the lesson plan. My grade in English fell from an "A" to an "F" i tried my hardest to make it up and I did. I raised from an "F" to a "C". Once again I thought that my luck was turning around but the world had other plans for me. I passed the tenth grade with all "A's" and two "B's", the two "B's" came from my Biology and English class. My junior year in high school passed quickly but I failed a semester of class because I had AP English then I switched 11th grade English and passed. I recently started my senior year in high school and started with all "A's" and maintained it so far now I will just have to keep it up until May so I can graduate with all "A's". After I am done with high school I am off to college at The University of Kansas.
This is the first of many down times for me and I will bounce back every time.
