Sand Volleyball Club by Tucker - September 2019 Scholarship Essay
If I were to create an extracurricular activity I would make a sand volleyball team. A few reasons being it could involve everyone not specifically girls. The competition would be less stressful and more of a leisurely activity. Plus we could improve the facility’s appearance and increase use.
I would create this extracurricular sport because I have been apart of what our school calls tuff-puff which is a week long men’s volleyball tournament at the time of our lunch period. Every year the four classes compete against each other and most of the school comes to watch. It’s always a blast for everyone involved. I in particular have always enjoyed playing volleyball and wondered why guys aren’t allowed to play. The reason being schools have to have equal sports for girls and boys and generally girls don’t play football and vise versa for volleyball. So I thought why not start a sand volleyball club. Anyone could come out and play no matter the gender.
I attend Lebanon High school and in between our football field and our school is a sand volleyball court. It always seems like it never gets used besides as a litter box for the local cats. The club could spend some of its time weekly cleaning and grooming the court so it’s not such an eyesore and it’s actually gets used. The club would also probably be held seasonally for nicer weather and be held two to three times a week.
My passion for playing volleyball has lead me to think about how I could involve myself and others to come together to simply play a game and enjoy our time. I would involve myself and others in to a more leisurely game that everyone is included in. Not only could everyone have a good time we could finally make use of the nice facility we are provided. If I were to create an extracurricular activity it would be sand volleyball.
