Why I've made a Difference by Tristan - November 2019 Scholarship Essay

At Wilson, we're all students who have had a tough time with what is considered to be "traditional high school". I feel like I have made a difference by trying to be as open and kind to everyone who crosses my path, and have a smile for anybody who needs it. At such a small school, with different students in every class, its possible to meet every single one. I've made it a point of pride to know everyone's names, and be able to greet them as such. I believe that it's in everyone's interest to be friendly and kind, and to treat everyone with respect.

At school we are expected to be productive members of our communities, and I have tried my best to meet this expectation. I have over 300 hours of community service, and am constantly trying to do more. Our school believes in working hard to achieve something, even if you have to take more steps than somebody else. I'm excited to go to college, but I just have to take a few more steps, and watch my footing. A huge help would be to be able to have the funds to make it through and go into teaching, so I can share my love of learning with our future generations.
