My Future is Bright by Trinity - December 2019 Scholarship Essay

It has been said that parents want their kids to lead a better life than they did. In my case, neither one of my parents went to college after graduating high school , which is why I believe they push me so hard to pursue a further education. My parents both know the struggle of trying to enroll in college courses while also raising kids and working a full time job , and that is something they never wanted me to go through. I believe that I owe it to them and myself to graduate from college and pursue my dream of working in the medical field.

The world of medicine is so broad and has many avenues you can explore , there is anything from a forensic accountant to an orthopedic surgeon. Over the years, I have researched hundreds of medical careers that I may be interested in . I am particularly fond of becoming a Neonatal Nurse. I believe my attraction with the job started about nine years ago when my brothers were born . My brother Carson was born premature and had to stay in the NICU for a month after he was born. Going to visit him in the hospital everyday after school, and spending so much time with the nurses there made me really feel like pursuing this career is something that I could really do. Also, this summer I decided to volunteer at a local hospital shadowing a nurse in the Emergency Room Department. Volunteering this summer showed me all the necessary jobs that a hospital needs to run smoothly, which made me truly appreciate the different medical careers.

Aside from volunteering at the hospital this summer , I am also apart of a program called Partner PE. This program was created to develop an appreciation for physical education with the Special ED kids at my school. The mission of this class is to teach the kids the fundamentals of different sports while also building a bond with them. Every kid in the program is unique in their own way , despite each of their many disabilities their personalities never fail to shine through. It is truly inspiring to watch these kids everyday fight through adversity with no complaints. Not only do we help them develop an appreciation for physical education , but also developing their social skills. As a program we take field trips such as : Special Olympics , The Parks Mall in Arlington , and a Texas Rangers game. These trips get the kids out of their comfort zone and out of their normal routine which I think they appreciate.

My desire to dedicate my life to taking care of others is something I am very passionate about. I believe that helping others is my personal purpose in life and I intend on achieving all of my goals , starting with getting my degree and finishing medical school. I am very grateful for my parents, because they constantly push me to make better decisions than they did , which started with attending college right out of graduation. I believe it is my dedication to succeeding and helping others that set me apart from my peers, and will be the key to me succeeding in college.
