Get involved to be in touch. by Trevor - March 2017 Scholarship Essay
Get involved to be in touch." This is not only a saying, but a key to being successful in life. While it can be hard to put yourself out there and be vulnerable, it is vitally important that you branch out and expand your horizon. At our young age, our views are easily influenced by our experiences. To extend your experiences to more than the normal hustle, and bustle of everyday life, can be simply described as building your base of knowledge and wing of networks. In our lives we network with people every day. From friends, to teachers, to people at work, they are all networks that coexist.
So the first part of the phrase, "get involved to be in touch," can be as simple as joining clubs or organizations that are local, or perhaps subsist right in your very own school. Getting involved ultimately helps you be more successful by reaching new networks. In a large world, with an "everybody knows somebody," moto it is important to gain these connections. This bridges parts of your life, which will benefit you as time goes on. While a simple conversation or relation may seem minimal as it is partaken, it can make a potentially significant impact on your future. Connections and networks help you get your foot in the door, for some opportunities. Being in touch ultimately helps you have a support system, or base, that you can refer back to and use to give you an advantage over others that may be competing for the same job, interview, or positions. Finally, I would like to touch on the fact of the matter that we all need a little help sometimes. No matter who you are or where you are at, eventually sometime in life you will need someone, or possibly even a couple people to be there for you to pick you up and dust you off. Making connections now, can give you the cushion you need to take chances, and reach your goals as you journey through the long lasting route we call life.
