CHILDHOOD VS ADULTHOOD by Timotheus - June 2017 Scholarship Essay
In order to understand someones educational career and life goals you'll have to know more information such as why they choose what they choose. As children your always asked “what do you want to be when you get older” ,but we never really know the answer. Some people say that they want to be doctors, firefighters, policeman, or even lawyers but that is just an assumption at an early age that can change. There are exceptions, some people know what they want to be and know how they are going to achieve it. I was one of those people; I knew I wanted to major in political science and when I graduated I wanted to make a huge impact. Now the only question is why selected it?
As a 6 year-year-old boy I wanted to have a cool job such as being a nascar racer or a motorcycle racer. I would've never thought about trying to become a police officer or a firefighter. Growing up in Atlanta seeing people race motorcycles, cars, and dirt bikes at the Georgia Dome made me want to do what they did. Having idols such as James Stewart a great motorcycle driver, motivated me to learn how to ride a dirt bike and persuade my parents to buy my first dirt bike. As I was getting older I started growing fond of criminal movies such as NCIS. Which you could say jump started my love to the major I choose in college.
Growing up I never expected to major in political science. As to why I selected it, I plan on making a huge impact worldwide with my degree. Some people think that nothing is wrong with the world but their is a lot of things that can be changed. With my major being political science I plan on changing the government. By studying how the government works I can help develop policies, conduct research and analyze data that will allow me to get an inside and outside perspective on how the government works. The different career paths gives me a lot of pathways to make a impact with the world. The government and advocacy jobs, law careers, lobbyists professions, business fields, journalism occupations, and teaching positions are not only lucrative but will allow me to provide the world with a lot of information the can change the world for the greater good. Since politics is having a great impact on the world I really believe if I can some how get inside the political minds of our officials then I would be able to fix the problems that are the causing problems. The impact that I plan on making with my degree will be one that people remember even after my death.
