"Doing Away With Distracted Driving" by Tiffany - July 2015 Scholarship Essay
My name is Tiffany and the one goal that I hope to accomplish while still in college is being able to reach out to young students with awareness to distractive driving and the consequences behind it. I am 26 and I currently have to travel good distances whether it is to get to school or to get to work. When I first moved to Tampa I was still working in Orlando and having to drive back and forth each day. It is amazing the number of accidents that I would see between there and home on a weekly basis. So many of the accidents could have been avoided had the individuals not been distracted by their phones.
So many young drivers believe that they have no problem focusing on the road while at the same time texting but yet it’s been proven that texting while driving is worse than drinking while driving. If this is the case than why do so many people still do it? The more informed young people are about this issue the better the chances are that they can avoid it. I have found that the best way to get messages out especially to the younger generation is through social media. Even if by reaching out to others my message helps just one young student that is one less distracted driver on the road that could be involved in an accident that could have been avoided.
