My Optimal Study by Taylor - October 2014 Scholarship Essay

Almost everyone has a different vision of their ideal classroom. However, as a senior in highschool I have been in almost every type of classroom environment that someone can think of. In this case, I definitely have an optimal vision of a perfect classroom for me and my learning.

I learn and remember things best by seeing them and writing them. Although many students do not like this type of learning, it is the best way for things to remain in my memory. Furthermore, I like a classroom that is not extremely large, but if I am having trouble on a specific subject, the teacher can assist me one on one. This way everyone can have their questions answered and receive one on one help when it is needed. This allows room for all students to have their learning needs met, even if one struggles on a topic that appears easy to others.

Therefore, if I were to create a classroom it would be similar to this. I would have all of the desks facing the front of the classroom in the same direction. The reason being, is that this allows students to remain more focused, because they are not facing other students around the classroom. Secondly, I would have the teacher stand in the front of the room where the students are facing. This allows less distractions for students and prevents them from constantly looking around the room. I personally prefer when teachers utilize a chalkboard or a projector to present the material. Therefore, I am able to see what we are discussing and write down what I think is important to remember. This allows students to write what they personally struggle with in a way that they will understand. Also this will reduce the amount of disturbances because students have to stay concentrated on the work and notes presented in front of them.
