Advice by Taylor - May 2014 Scholarship Essay

Over the past year, I have been given a numerous amount of advice when it comes to college. I have received a lot of good advice, but the best advice I have received has come from many of my teachers in my high school. I have never heard them say anything more than I have heard them say “It’s important to take good courses at college, but it is also important to take fun classes so you don’t burn out.”

I have read many statistics about college students after their first semester and the top thing that stuck out to me is that many of them do not return for their second semester. I’ve learned that many first year students take a lot of difficult classes and forget to take some that they will actually enjoy. They get so tired so fast and they eventually quit going to their classes altogether.

I think it is very important to take difficult classes to “stretch” your mind and I also think it is important to take classes that interest you, that you want to take. The classes you want to take could help you stay focused and not give up on your studies. I think it would be easier to have a good college experience if you took one or two classes you wanted to take.
