Overcoming Challenges in Dance by Taylor - February 2017 Scholarship Essay

“Try, try again” is what I was always told to do when I was younger. This may sounds like an easy thing to do, but when it comes down to it, it’s harder than it seems. In life, most of the time it’s easier to give up. However that gets you nowhere in life. One personal life experience that I had, taught me the value of hard work and never giving up.
I have always loved dance, it is one of my biggest passions. I have been dancing since the age of three. It was something that I felt I was naturally good at. So when I was in seventh grade I decided to try out for the dance team. I was pleased to hear that I made the team, but also nervous to hear that further cuts could still be made. Later in the week I was notified that I had made the performance kick team, but that I did not make the jazz team. When I first heard the news,I just wanted to sit down and cry, but then I realized that did nothing for me. After I collected myself I started working harder than I ever have. I attended ballet, camps, and pushed myself during practices. The next year, my hard work paid off. I was the captain of the JV team, and the year following, I danced on varsity jazz. I currently still dance and and push myself daily.
This experience really helped me learn the value of hard work. I no longer expect to get something. I realize that anything good takes hard work. I’m determined and won’t stop until I reach my full potential. Due to what seamed like a horrible thing, I was able to learn the value of hard work and push myself more than I ever knew I could.
