The Next step by Sydney - January 2015 Scholarship Essay
So many teachers today hate their job. They tell students, “never be a teacher.” That attitude is what our students are seeing, therefore they know the teachers don’t want to be at school, so why would they want to be there? If more teachers took in how amazing it is to educate the next generation of the nation, they would start to love their job. If a person loves their job, they are going to be much better at what they do.
This love of teaching others and taking the next step to help them achieve the highest knowledge they are able to give them could make a huge difference in the school system. When students see that teachers do truly care about them and don’t just look at them as a nuisance or a test score, they will be more attentive to that teacher.
It’s the little things about a person’s attitude that make the big differences. If a teacher was to simply go out of their way to answer a student’s questions or help them with content they are struggling with, more students would like learning. I know that when I see that light bulb go off in my head when I understand something I get excited and I actually enjoy the work I am doing. So many students don’t like school because they struggle with not knowing the content. This should not be the problem with why kids despise school. That is what the teachers are for! If they just took the next step a little further than what’s expected of them, they could get through to students and more of them would be happy to learn.
The key to changing everything about how kids feel about school and how they learn starts with the teacher’s attitude about what they do every day. There should be no more doing just the bare minimum, for students or for their teachers.
