My Kind and Compassionate Teacher by Sydney - June 2021 Scholarship Essay
A teacher is described as a person who teaches and helps students grow their knowledge. When I think about my most influential teacher, she is way more than that. Mrs. Wacker exceeded this definition with her warm spirit every day. She understood me in many ways. When I think back, she was the teacher who always went out of her way for me. I remember the first day I walked into her class my junior year of high school, as a new student. My body trembled and my stomach felt squeezy as I sat in my seat. From the moment she started talking I felt so welcomed and a lot of the stress was taken off of me. I could tell that she was very passionate about being there and caring about her students. She made each of us tell a little bit about ourselves. When I told my story, she was considerate and kept a conversation with me and made me feel comforted about my situation.
I looked forward to going to school because of her class. Her lessons were engaging, and I never hesitated to ask her any questions when I was having troubles. She would notice when I was having a bad day and would ask if I was okay and if I needed to talk about it. She was the most caring teacher I have ever had. I did not have anyone to sit with at lunch so she would let me stay in her room with her. Being in her presence you could tell she was a natural born teacher, with her compassion, patience and excellent lectures. She made class fun and her energetic personality and approach to teaching kept me focused. She encouraged me to learn from my mistakes and would thoroughly explain what I did wrong.
Mrs. Wacker is the most trustworthy teacher I have ever had. I could tell her anything about my personal life and trusted her with it. It was so easy to talk to her and she understood each and every one of her students. She specifically went out of her way to find out each of our learning needs. Every week she would ask us how we liked the lesson and if there is any way she should change it to fit our needs. She was consistently finding ways to make her class better for everyone. She influenced me in many ways, more than just a teacher would.
I aspire to have the same traits that she shows. Kindness can go a long way, especially when it is your teacher. I was blessed to have Mrs. Wacker my junior and senior year of high school. I would describe her as a second mother figure. She pushed me to be the best version of myself and to grow in my academic and personal life. She empowered me to feel confident in my writing and work abilities. I miss her class her positive encouragement every day. My teacher, Mrs. Wacker influenced me as a person with her compassion and generosity on a daily basis and the rest of my life.
