Harry Potter by Sydney - April 2014 Scholarship Essay

Harry Potter. The classic book and movie series of my generation, has been inspirational and an incredible role model to me. Growing up I have always had the biggest imagination. With the amazing things that would occur in the series at Hogwarts, it let my mind soar. This character influenced my ability to have the courage to be put out into situations outside of my comfort zone.

In fifth grade, I switched schools. A new girl in a new district, Harry Potter motivated me to put myself out there even when I was scared to. I watched the movies every weekend and could never put the books down because it was always comforting. When Harry first goes to Hogwarts, he is put in the same situation that I was, not knowing anyone and feeling out of place. Seeing that he was able to adjust and make friends very easily, I knew I had the ability to do that too.
Even now, this series still seems to stay with me. Throughout the books, Harry goes with his gut and always follows his dreams. Still looking for insight through Harry, I reread the books and watch the movies and am constantly reminded that I need to do what is best for me always, and do what makes me happy.

Owing my life successes to J.K. Rowling, I do not know what I would do without Harry Potter in my life. He has always been there for me, even though he is a fictional character. In result of this series in my life, I have been able to always follow what I know is best for me, and have had a very fulfilling and rewarding life.
