Believe in Yourself by Summer - July 2017 Scholarship Essay
“Never say never” is always what I’ve heard throughout my life growing up. “You can always do what you put your mind to” was another cliché saying that I used to hear. I never paid much attention to the wisdom that was being shared with me throughout my youth. I have struggled with low self-esteem for most my life, but I am here to tell anyone who will listen that you can really do anything you put your mind to if you’re willing to work for it.
Everyone has a story to tell. That’s the way of life. We all learn and grow from others who have come before us. The reason I would want to speak on believing in yourself is because too many people let unfair circumstances, trials, or just general bad luck deter them from what they were meant to accomplish and achieve. I would want to motivate and challenge individuals to always keep moving forward even if knocked backwards and forced to start again.
The reason believing in your self is so important is because you never want to ask yourself the dreaded “what if” questions. That deterring question can have you wondering for eternity and that is something everyone regrets. Don’t ever have “what if” questions because trying and failing will always be more satisfying than never trying at all. Not being afraid of failure is something that I am still learning, so if I were to give a TED Talk presentation I would make sure to address that we all make mistakes and become better from our trials because that is where the true learning takes place.
Everyone has their own certain niche in this world. There is something for everyone to accomplish in this invigorating, frustrating, and amazing world that is inhabited by us all. No one can take your ambition and work ethic away from you. You must first always believe in you and let your light flourish so bright that no one will mistake that you are striving and living in your purpose.
