Meaning of Success by Steven - October 2013 Scholarship Essay
The definition of success means the favorable outcome of something attempted and the attainment of wealth, fame, etc. To me, that’s not all true. Success can be identified in many ways. To you, success may mean owning an awesome car, having a great job, even having a lot of money. On the other hand, to me, success is completing a task I have been working hard on and completing it to the best of my ability without giving up. Also, success means to make things manifest to other people and being as altruistic as much as I can. Just that simple smile and/or “thank you” would allow me to feel as if I have accomplished something very important. And having an education to keep moving forward for a better opportunity later in life is important to being successful to me too, since having that education will get you even further. With more leads to different job opportunities in the career that I’m going to take place in, higher income to help support me and my family to living without struggle, and more knowledge than just the K-12 grade that I have since college is helping refresh my memory on a lot I didn't know and that I have forgotten. This will all be helpful in the long run for me.
Don’t get me wrong. It would be incredible to have that nice car and pocket full of money, but as long as I have that car that will get me from place to place I need to go, and that is running well and so I’m not spending a fortune on it to keep it running, I’m perfectly fine. And as long as I have the money I truly need to live, to keep clothes on my back, and food in the house so I don’t starve, and be able to pay all the bills I need for water, gas, and electricity to do all my daily needs and be able to get the necessities that I’m sure I’ll need like soap, toothbrush, cookware, shoes and so on, everything will work out for the good.
Also with aiming for and having a successful life I would have both abstract and concrete materials. I want to own my own house the way I would like it. Have a warm loving enduring family who will always love and support one another through the good and the hardships of times, superior education to keep me going further, true friends who I can count on and that will be there, and have a life long career to support my self and my family and to help the close people around me. Also people will like me for who I am not for who they perceive me to be. People would trust me, and most importantly, love me. In the end, I don’t believe in having the most extravagant material possessions. If I have the necessities, I’m happy.
Then when it comes to the type of person I’ll become when successful, I’ll be the one person everyone can count on instead of be greedy with everything that I have or own: the one everyone can trust. In addition, I’ll do the best I can do for that person. I will be helping others with whatever they need help with as long as I can. But if I happen to do wrong, I will always make sure I do my best to fix it keeping my “side of the street is clean.” I’ll have to be the bigger person in every situation knowing that it can happen were human, we all do it just we don’t make amends to them quickly like we should but I’ll sure do that when I can.
In other words for me success will be a great accomplishment. It will bring me close to other people, build a good career, and have wonderful family, also possess courage to help other as much as possible. Now we know Success from the dictionary isn't what we truly need to aim for.
