My Ultimate Goal by Steven - July 2015 Scholarship Essay
My ultimate goal is making a difference in the world. With my college education, I intend to invent, transform, discover, or alter something that will affect every human on Earth. This “something” could come in the form of a chemical substance that changes dirty or salty water into pure drinking water in seconds. It could be a robot capable of human emotions or a car that gets 82 mpg. Even a slightly more compact microprocessor could allow for technology to advance beyond its current limitations like never before. I want to be the creator of something unknown today and commonplace in the future.
When Steve Jobs invented the iPhone, he created demand in a market that previously didn’t exist. People didn’t know they wanted it until they saw it. Nobody imagined light could be sustained by something other than a flame, until Thomas Edison created his incandescent light bulb. I want to be one of those people. I want to be someone that people remember as the “Inventor of the __”.
I feel that I was meant to change lives. I want to create something I can call my own. The combination of these inclinations leaves me an intense desire to invent a thing or a process that the world hasn’t seen before. I want to become an engineer because engineers dream up ideas and make them reality. An engineer doesn’t work, he gets paid for what he loves to do. My ultimate goal is to make a difference.
