To Be Included by Stephanie - March 2017 Scholarship Essay
If I could give a speech to a school-wide audience, it would be about including others. I have been the person who has been left out, and I have also been the person who has left people out. Both positions feel terrible, even leaving a person out. Leaving a person out eventually comes back around, and the person either feels terrible about it, or they eventually get left out of something.
I want to make people aware that being left out is one of the worst feelings in the world, speaking from experience. Being left out can cause depression, suicidal feelings, doubt, feeling worthless, and more. I believe that once you get left out of something that meant something to you, then will not leave anyone out of anything. I believe you can learn from being left out, but it can be a rough time as well.
Being left out caused me to be more introverted and feeling bad about myself. I did not know why I was being left out. I came to the conclusion that girls are going to be girls, and that’s just how it’s going to be. It also caused me to be more aware of my surroundings and my body language. I became more open and accepting of people. I changed how I thought I may have looked conceded, and made myself look more approachable.
As I still learn from my experiences of being left out, I remember how it felt, and try to include everyone that wants to be included. I want people to be more aware of others’ feelings like I have learned.
