My Study Method by Sorie - January 2014 Scholarship Essay
What is the most effective study method you have used and how did it benefit you?
Studying is the pursuit of knowledge through reading, observation, or research. Everyone has their own routine of studying; some use flashcards, notes taken in class, etc. No one can teach you how to study, you must learn on your own and find what works best for you. For me I use a combination of different methods. I manage my time, set a goal, bring all notes taken together and break studying into little pieces that I can work on each day. I find a quiet spot so that I can think in peace and let my mind become free. I will find the most important facts in notes then use textbook to clarify vocabulary words or any important facts that are unknown, and finally a day before the test do something fun.
Making some type of schedule that works for you will be helpful. Dedicate certain days and times as to when you are going to study. The days and times do not always have to be the same, some days you can study more and some less. Whatever ever makes it easier because there is no need to stress over a test as long as you say focus on studying? Setting a goal makes it easier to study; it gives you a reason to study instead of just thinking you are studying to pass a test. For me, my goal is always the same; I study because I need to do well on my test so that I can improve my GPA. By improving my GPA it will make it easier for me to get into the college of my choice and play collegiate soccer.
Finding a quiet spot to study helps you feel more comfortable which also aid you to clear your mind. This spot should be moderately quiet so there will be no disturbances. I like listening to music so that even if my spot is very distracting, the music will help me disregard all of those distractions. Before studying begins, just take a few minutes to clear the mind so that you will not be thinking about anything besides the notes. Eating a snack like an apple or granola bar can help clear and free your mind. It also keeps the mind from thinking about food while studying.
