What Success Means to Me by Sophia - February 2021 Scholarship Essay

Success is defined in the dictionary as, "the accomplishment of an aim or purpose." However, many people would describe success as the amount of money they have, to how high their status is. Today many people get too obsessed with what people think of what they have done with their life rather than if they are happy, and to me as long as you are happy, you are successful. Successfulness isn't just about being the best at whatever you do, it's about enjoying yourself and being genuinely happy with your accomplishments.
In college, success would be being the best student you can be, while also enjoy your time as a young adult. To be successful in a secondary education program, you need to learn how to balance your studies with your extracurricular activities, and with your time spent with friends and family. For me to be successful after college I plan to study business and one day own one of my own. Specifically a marina on the lake. Ever since junior high I have been pushed to go into the medical field, however recently I realized that I don't think I would be happy and therefore not successful in any medical position. My happiness is on any lake with boats and people, if I were to pursue this career I would never have to work a day in my life because I know I would love this job.
To me success at any level is joy. If you have brought joy and happiness into your life with your career, then you have become a successful person. Status level or a paycheck does not define your success, you do. Your attitude and determination to be happy will bring success along with it, you just have to go for it.
