What important topic would you want to give a speech about to a school-wide audience? by Skiler - March 2017 Scholarship Essay
If I were given the opportunity to stand in front of my school and give a speech, I would talk about what to do to make high school worth the effort.
When I entered my freshman year of high school, it was exciting and scary all in the same, I was able to wear what I wanted, there were a bigger pool of friends to pick from , the opportunity to play sports and join clubs, all these doors where opened to me by just being here.
Over the last four years I have learned an important lesson; high school itself is a meniscal piece to the whole puzzle, the puzzle that became my life over the last four years. I learned you can step out and try new things and meet new people and achieve goals you had no idea you wanted to achieve or dreamed you could. It has shown me who I can be and if I work really hard I can do amazing things.
High school is going to be what you put into it, and it can be a great four years if you want it to be or you can leer in the shadows and go unnoticed and get your diploma and move on with your life. You can chose either option, but my advice is to get as much out of it as possible. Play sports, join clubs, tutor underclassman; utilize all your school has to offer you.
Working hard in high school gave me the opportunity to take college classes and in May I will walk across the stage and receive my Associate’s degree all before I graduate from High School. I was accepted to my dream college, all of this because I made the decision the first day that I walked into this high school to make the next four years memorable and worth it.
So go out make friends, try the drama club, run track, become part of the student government, whatever it is, make it count and put 100% effort into making it amazing. So when it comes time to receive your diploma and you walk across that stage, you know in your heart that your effort was so worth it.
