The Faces of My Education by Shyann - December 2014 Scholarship Essay

When you look back on your life what is one of the first things you think about? For me, I think of high school and all of the things I learned during that time. Had I not attended school I am 99.9% positive I would not be the person I am today. The reason I believe this is because of all of the experiences and lessons I would have missed out on if I hadn’t attended high school. The past four years have shaped me into the person I am today.

I still remember my first day of Freshman year. It was probably one of the scariest days I have been through. There were so many new people and teachers that I had never met before. I had a schedule with eight classes in rooms I had never been in before. I got lost more then once, but all of the teachers were extremely nice. In fact, my teachers are the real reason that my high school career has been so enjoyable. Some people say that anyone can be a teacher but that just isn’t true. A teacher has to enjoy his/her job, they have to want to teach. During my four years I have found three teachers who go beyond the expected while teaching. These three teachers have taught me something that is so valuable. They taught me to love everything I do.

First, my PFL, Accounting, and Yearbook teacher, Mrs. Droddy. This lady has taught me so many things. Not only about PFL, Accounting, and Yearbook, but also about life in general. Being a part of her Yearbook staff this year is something that I will remember and cherish for years to come. She is kind and always willing to help. I was lucky enough to have her as a teacher my Sophomore, Junior, and Senior year. Her skill and passion for teaching kept me awake during class and yearning to learn more.

Next, my Freshman English 1 teacher Coach Hayes. Four years ago I had this man as my English teacher and although four years is a very long time I still remember how great of a teacher he is. His lessons were always interesting and full of meaning. He keeps his students hooked with his humor. He always had something both funny and meaningful to say. His class was fun and I always looked forward to going to it but maybe I’m biased because I absolutely love English.

Lastly, my Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 teacher Mrs. Bramlett. I knew almost nothing about math until my freshman year. She taught me everything I know now and everything i needed to know to pass my Algebra EOI‘s. She is the reason I look forward to taking my ACT and other test like it. She is the teacher who made me feel that I had the knowledge to score high on the math portion of tests. Because of her I scored advanced on my Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 EOI‘s. She is such an amazing teacher and she strives to teach her students every bit of information that can and will help them pass those tests. If she wouldn’t have been my algebra teacher I don’t think I would be armed with the tools to succeed mathematically.

Who I am today has a lot to do with these three people. I owe a great deal of the education I received to all of the teachers at my high school, but these three teachers are the ones who made a huge impact on me. I learned so much from each one of them. Without these three great teachers I would not have had the education that shaped me into the person I am today. Teachers hardly get the recognition they deserve but without them an education would be almost impossible to obtain. Everyone has a teacher who has made an impact, a teacher who went way beyond what they had to do. To all the extraordinary teachers out there I want to say thank you. Thank you for taking the time to care, thank you for teaching your heart out, thank you for shaping the lives of all of your students, And most of all thank you for everything you do.
