The Perfect Career For Me by Shelby - March 2020 Scholarship Essay
There are many people that I know and have known who have no idea what they want to major in and even less, what they want to do in terms of a career. I consider myself one of the few lucky people that do know what they want to do. Since I was about nine-years-old, I have been writing stories with the intent to one day get them published. Though my writing at nine-years- old may not have been as eloquent as Gabriel Garcia Marquez and many of them were never finished, much has changed since then. Currently, I am in my second year of taking a Creative Writing class, have written a two-hundred-and-then-some paged manuscript, and have many short stories that I am currently looking to get published.
Despite not needing to go to college to be a writer, I want to further my education and become as skilled as I can in order to truly reach others. I hope to go to a school with a major that will help me become the most proficient and effective writer I can be. Having the support of the school of my choice, I hope to be able to create a memorable and distinctive portfolio and be able to have added on to having a real experience as a writer.
One of my career goals is to find a job as an editor, publisher, or another position that will put me in the industry soon after college. While having this job, I want to continue to write short stories and novels at the same time as a way to continue to pursue my vocation. Another of my goals is to be able to write full-time and still be able to support myself on the income I receive from it. Even still, this is not my final goal in terms of a career. My biggest aim in being a writer is to help people. If I am able to make anyone in my audience feel more comfortable in their own identities by including characters from diverse backgrounds and with unique problems. Or help someone realize that they can and will make it in anything they set their minds to as my protagonists make it past even their largest hurdles. Only then will I have begun to achieve my lifelong goal and vocation.
