A STRONGER YOU by Shay - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
I believe that Leadership skills are necessary for college success in the sense that it will provide more opportunity in your educational experience and beyond. College provides many new experiences and opportunities that will be yours for the taking but you will need to obtain the skills necessary to accomplish it.
I will mention 5 skills that make up a strong leader. The first skill and one of the most important skill is confidence. Being confident about who you are and what you are doing is the foundation to good leadership. Another skill that develops good leadership is being open minded and able to adapt to every kind of environment or situation that you face, especially when you enter college. You will have to adapt to a different environment. Specifically a learning environment. You will be away from family and friends and will have to be open minded about other people and the activities on your campus. You will need to learn to adapt in a way that will bring positive results in your life no matter what the situation may bring. Good communication is also a very important leadership skill to have. You will need to be able to communicate with different people in a way that doesn’t compromise your beliefs and opinions but at the same time shows respect and understanding for the beliefs and opinions of others. People also need to be able to rely on you. You should be consistent with your decisions and promises that you make to other people. Trust is a very strong connector between people and when people feel that they can rely on you then you have gained their trust and respect.
In conclusion I feel that leadership skills are necessary for college success. You need these skills in order to build your character and to provide yourself with a more enriched experience. With these skills doors will open up for you in college and when you leave college.
