Teachers make a diffrence by Shastan - June 2017 Scholarship Essay

When school first started many students didn't know me or even look my way. The ones that did know me often talked behind my back and made fun of me. But what hit me the hardest was that even though my sister and I came from the same household, she was often viewed as the better one. My sister was loved by everyone, top of her class, had many friends and was even treated better in my own home. There was no where to turn to where I was always being drowned out by my sisters superiority. But I after I started school I was able to find one place where I could run to a place where I truly felt I belonged and that was trough education.

Even though many children avoided me in school and I was never the best at what I was doing, just learning in general brought happiness that I never knew existed. Each day I couldn't wait to go to school and dreaded when I had to leave. The teachers ended up being more of a mother to me then my own and it was because of them that I ended up deciding who I wanted to be even at the young age of six. I chose to be a person who was always there for everyone and never made fun of people who were different then us. Working my hardest and furthering my education made me into the person I am today. If it wasn't for my teachers at that young age that taught me not just the basics of education but also life lessons, I would have never found myself and because of how much they helped me in my life, I decided I wanted to be just like them. I waned to help children the way they helped me, that's why I decided to become a teacher. Before they helped me I never truly understood a impact a teacher can have on a child and if the impact is big enough the student will remember them in years to come.
