Next Pitch by Shane - February 2017 Scholarship Essay
Everyone fails at one thing or another in their lifetime. It can be a big deal, like not graduating or it can be a very small failure, like not getting up at the time you wanted in the morning. But everyone has had a failure. While failure is hard for people to deal with, there are still many times in life when you can overcome that failure and work harder so you do not fail again. For me, that is exactly what happened in the game of baseball.
I was in sixth grade and I had been playing the sport of baseball for about 5 years at the time and I decided that I would like to try out for the all star team that was in my city. I told my parents and they signed me up for the try outs. When the day came I was super nervous because I was super nervous and did not want to get cut from the team, I really wanted to make the team. I tried my absolute best, I threw as hard as I could, hit as far as I could, but it turned out that it was not enough. It made me really hurt when I found out I did not make the team.
I had thought about quitting playing baseball for the rest of my life but my grandpa helped me stay on track and work even harder as I prepared for the next season, with the determination that I was going to be on the all star team the next year. When that time came the next season, I tried out again, and all my hard work had payed off as My mom got a call saying that I had made the team. I was ecstatic and jumping up and down that I had overcome my failures and finally did what I had wanted to do since the year before.
