The class in college that deserves the more emphasis by Shahir - November 2021 Scholarship Essay
When it comes to college, there are many classes available for different kinds of people to take depending on what they want to study. College opens doors to a wide range of opportunities from retail to engineering and from teaching preschool to becoming a professor at an Ivy League school. Nearly all, if not all, of these professions, require that one has a proficient knowledge of the English language since communication is a required ability. Therefore, English should have more emphasis in college as well as grade school.
In all college programs of study, English basics or English Composition classes make up part of your degree program, and many universities even require a certain grade, particularly a C or higher, to pass and graduate. Furthermore, there are college students who come from different parts of the world. My college, George Mason University, is home to students from more than 3,000 students from around the world, especially from places such as South Asia, the Far East, and the Middle East. Even as someone born in America to parents from Afghanistan, I have a proficient level of knowledge in English, but I still, find it helpful that this class exists to refresh my English reading and writing skills.
Fluently speaking English is beneficial to everyone in any career field as it gives more opportunities to be successful in the land of opportunity. One needs to take English composition before taking certain classes that are part of a sequence, especially since English can also serve as a prerequisite for a wider variety of classes and not just English classes. The subject is also a requirement for grade school students as they are at a good age for learning to set in stone for future endeavors. For those reasons, that’s why English should have more emphasis in school, whether in public school or college.
